Commission vs flat fee calculator

The break-even point between paying per video and paying a share of sales.

With a $150 video, a $45 order and 15 % commission, the break-even is 23 orders. Below that, commission costs the brand less; above it, the flat fee does. At 20 orders the commission would be $135.

Example math. Order values, fees and rates are inputs you choose, not benchmarks.

The formula

  1. Commission per order = order value × commission rate
  2. Break-even orders = flat fee ÷ commission per order
  3. If a video brings fewer orders than the break-even, commission costs less. More, and the flat fee costs less.

Questions people ask

What does the break-even number mean?
It is the number of attributed orders at which commission and the flat fee cost the same. Below it, commission is the cheaper way to pay; above it, the flat fee is.
Should a brand always pick the cheaper one?
No. Commission moves the risk to the creator, so strong creators often decline it without a base. Many brands pay a smaller flat fee plus a lower commission.
Does this include ad spend?
No. It compares creator pay only. Use the ad spend share calculator for the cost of a percentage of ad spend.
Where do the default numbers come from?
They are round example numbers, not benchmarks. Replace them with your own order value and fee.
