Whitelisting

Updated

Whitelisting: Whitelisting is a creator giving a brand permission to run ads from the creator's own social handle, often at the account level.

Whitelisting is the industry word for a creator letting a brand advertise from the creator’s account. The brand builds the ads, picks the audience and pays for the media. The ad shows the creator’s name and face as the sender. The platforms do not use the word; on Meta the feature is partnership ads with post-level or account-level permission (Meta), and on TikTok it is a Spark Ads authorization code (TikTok).

Account-level whitelisting is the broad version. The brand can create new ads under the creator’s handle, including unpublished posts the creator never posted organically, without approving each one. Post-level whitelisting is narrow: one post, one permission.

Example. A brand pays a creator $400 per month for account-level whitelisting on Meta plus a 5 % share of the ad spend. The brand runs three different ads from the creator’s handle and spends $6,000 in the month. The creator receives $400 plus $300. Example numbers.

When brands use it. The pain this answers: “Getting a creator’s video live as a Partnership Ad is a mess of downloads and permissions.” Brands whitelist when creator-fronted ads outperform their own, and when they want to iterate on hooks, captions and audiences without going back to the creator for each version. It pairs with ad spend share because the spend is in the brand’s account.

The creator’s view. Whitelisting means ads the creator did not write can carry the creator’s name. Usual terms: a fixed duration, the right to review copy before it runs, a list of what the brand may not claim, the ability to revoke, and separate pay for the usage. On Meta, content-level permissions are managed from the creator’s side (Instagram Help), and a TikTok code expires at the end of its period.

On HourlyUGC. The brand launches Meta Partnership Ads with the creators’ videos from inside HourlyUGC, so the permission and the ad live in the same place.
