UGC creator

Updated

UGC creator: A UGC creator makes short, customer-style videos for brands on commission and is paid for the footage or its results rather than for their audience.

A UGC creator films product videos for brands. The difference from an influencer is where the value sits. An influencer sells access to an audience; a UGC creator sells the ability to make a video that looks like a real customer made it. Many UGC creators have small followings and never post the brand’s video themselves. Others do both: they make the video, post it with a code, and let the brand run it as an ad.

The job has a few standard shapes. A brand books the creator by the hour and the session produces several videos. A brand pays per approved video from a brief. A brand ships product and offers a share of sales. Or the brand runs the creator’s video as an ad and pays a share of the spend.

Example. A creator takes three deals in a month: a 3-hour hourly session that yields six clips, two per-video jobs at $100 each, and a share-of-sales deal with a code that brings 20 orders at $50 with 15 % commission. The month’s income is the hourly rate times three, plus $200, plus $150. Example numbers, not a benchmark and not a promise.

When brands use them. The pain this answers: “I spend my week DMing creators who never reply.” Brands hire UGC creators when they need many videos in a customer’s voice, fast, for ads and organic channels. HourlyUGC‘s own guidance suggests starting with per-video campaigns to find creators and then booking hourly sessions with the ones whose videos were kept (HourlyUGC).

The creator’s view. Income depends on what the creator agreed to: a base, a share, or both. A base pays for the filming; a share pays for results. Either way, if the creator posts the content on their own account for money or free product, the FTC expects a clear disclosure in the video (FTC).
